1st 인턴 소개: Chiara Balmer 이야기

저희의 첫 번째 해외 인턴, Chiara Balmer는 2023년 1월 5일부터 6월 25일까지 저희와 함께했습니다. 스위스에서 인터랙티브 미디어 디자인을 전공하는 그녀는 온라인으로 저희를 발견하고 용기 있게 한국 인턴십에 지원했습니다.

서로에게 새로운 시작

키아라의 합류는 매너리즘에 빠져있던 저에게 상상치 못한 새로운 자극이었고, 다른 배경을 가진 그녀와의 협업은 즐거운 도전이었습니다. 인턴십 초기, 낯선 환경과 언어 장벽으로 어려움이 있었지만, 키아라는 신한 박물관 홍보 영상 제작이나 대구 박물관의 한국 전통 그림 애니메이션 작업 등 다양한 클라이언트 프로젝트에 참여하며 빠르게 적응하고 성장했습니다.

우리만의 특별한 프로젝트: '서울(Séoul)'

그중에서도 가장 기억에 남는 경험은 저희 둘만의 '서울(Séoul)' 프로젝트로, 서울의 한 갤러리에서 전시회를 열었던 일입니다. 키아라의 친구가 힘든 마음을 위로하기 위해 쓴 프랑스어 시를 바탕으로 영상 작업을 시작했죠.

디지털 미디어 전공자인 키아라는 이 프로젝트를 통해 난생처음 캔버스에 아크릴 물감으로 그림을 그리는 페인팅 작업을 경험했습니다. 예상외로 이 작업에 흥미를 느낀 그녀는 이번 경험을 계기로 귀국 후 전공까지 바꾸기로 결심했고, 내년에 다시 한국에 와서 저희와 인턴 생활을 함께하기로 했습니다.

성장을 이끈 특별한 인연

키아라는 이번 인턴십이 아티스트로서, 그리고 한 사람으로서 성장하는 특별한 경험이었다고 말합니다. 서로 다른 언어와 문화 속에서 소통하고, 작업을 스스로 구조화하며, 여러 예술가들을 만나 네트워킹을 시작한 것은 그녀에게 큰 자산이 되었습니다.

저희는 키아라가 보인 놀라운 용기와 열정에 깊이 감사하며, 다시 만날 다음 인연을 기대하고 있습니다.

A Glimpse into Our First Internship: The Story of Chiara Balmer

Our first international intern, Chiara Balmer, was with us from January 5 to June 25, 2023. A student of Interactive Media Design in Switzerland, she courageously applied for an internship in Korea after discovering us online.

A New Beginning for Both of Us

Chiara's arrival was an unexpected and welcome jolt, inspiring me out of my creative rut. Collaborating with someone from a different background was an enjoyable challenge. Despite initial difficulties with the unfamiliar environment and language, Chiara quickly adapted and grew, participating in various client projects, including promotional videos for the Shinhan Museum and animation work for traditional Korean paintings at the Daegu Museum.

Our Special Project: 'Séoul'

The most memorable experience was our joint project, 'Séoul', which culminated in an exhibition at a gallery in Seoul. We began the video work based on a French poem her friend wrote to comfort her during a difficult time.

As a digital media major, Chiara's work on this project led her to try painting on canvas with acrylics for the very first time. To our surprise, she found the work so engaging that she decided to change her major upon returning home and has committed to returning to Korea next year for another internship with us.

A Special Bond That Fostered Growth

Chiara says that this internship was a remarkable experience that helped her grow as an artist and as a person. Communicating across different languages and cultures, structuring her own projects, and networking with various artists became valuable assets.
