전민수(1975~)는 회화에서 출발해 영상, 미디어아트, 몰입형 공간 연출로 확장해온 시각예술가이자 크리에이티브 디렉터다. 서울 서촌에서 미디어 스튜디오 더비디오스(THE VIDEOS)를 이끌며, 시간과 장소에 남아 있는 감정을 발견해 새로운 공간 경험으로 번역하는 작업을 이어가고 있다.

Jun Minsoo (b. 1975) is a visual artist and creative director whose practice began in painting and has expanded into film, media art, and immersive spatial work. He leads THE VIDEOS, a media studio in Seochon, Seoul, uncovering the emotions that remain in time and place and translating them into new spatial experiences.

전민수(1975~)는 회화에서 출발해 사진, 영상, 애니메이션, 미디어아트를 넘나들며 활동해온 대한민국의 예술가다. 계원예술대학교에서 회화를 전공했고, 20대에 판화로 미술세계대전과 일본 가나가와판화전에 입상하며 작가 활동을 시작했다. 이후 20여 년간 서울시립미술관, 예술의전당, 국립아시아문화전당, 문화역서울284, 일본 K-MOPA 등 국내외 주요 기관에서 전시를 이어왔다.

그의 작업을 관통하는 태도는 과거의 소재를 미래의 형식으로 다시 보여주는 것이다. 추사 김정희의 세한도를 VR 작품으로 재해석한 「세한도 VR-장무상망」은 부천국제판타스틱영화제(BIFAN), 중국 샌드박스 이머시브 페스티벌(SIF), 대만 가오슝영화제, 강릉국제영화제 등 국제 영화제에 초청되었다. 역사적 장면을 시네마틱 미디어아트로 변환하고, 전통 공간과 자연을 거대한 몰입형 화면 안에 다시 배치하는 한편, 미래적인 소재를 다룰 때는 차가운 기술의 이미지에 온기와 생명감을 불어넣는다.

현재 서울 서촌에서 미디어 스튜디오 더비디오스(THE VIDEOS) 를 이끌고 있다. 촬영과 편집이 이루어지는 제작 스튜디오이자, 상영과 대화와 실험이 오가는 작은 문화 공간이다. 박물관과 문화기관의 몰입형 미디어아트, 전통문화 다큐멘터리, 인물 기록영화, 프로젝션 매핑과 파노라마 영상, AI를 활용한 역사·SF 영상 실험까지 — 기획에서 연출, 완성에 이르는 전 과정을 직접 이끈다. 스위스 예술학교 및 Swissnex와 연계해 해외 인턴들과 장기 공동 프로젝트를 진행하며, 스튜디오를 제작사이자 작은 창작학교처럼 운영해왔다.

그의 화면에서 자주 반복되는 것은 새벽에서 밤으로 넘어가는 빛, 천천히 흐르는 구름, 먼지 속에서 드러나는 인물, 오래된 장소에 남은 소리다. 거대한 스펙터클을 만들 때에도 그 안에 조용한 순간을 남긴다. 2024년부터는 다시 회화에 무게를 실으며, 의뢰받은 작업을 넘어 자기 이름으로 기억될 독립적인 작품 세계를 만들어가고 있다.

Jun Minsoo (b. 1975) is a South Korean artist whose practice began in painting and has since expanded across photography, film, animation, and media art. He studied painting at Kaywon University of Art and Design, and began his career as an artist in his twenties, receiving awards in printmaking at the Misulsegye Art Competition and the Kanagawa Print Exhibition in Japan. Over the past two decades, he has exhibited at major institutions in Korea and abroad, including the Seoul Museum of Art, the Seoul Arts Center, the Asia Culture Center, Culture Station Seoul 284, and the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts (K-MOPA) in Japan.

A defining thread runs through his work: re-presenting the past through the forms of the future. His VR reinterpretation of Sehando — the celebrated literati painting by Kim Jeong-hui — titled Sehando VR: Never Forget Each Other, was officially invited to international festivals including the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN), the Sandbox Immersive Festival (SIF) in Qingdao, China, the Kaohsiung Film Festival's XR Dreamland in Taiwan, and the Gangneung International Film Festival. He transforms historical imagery into cinematic media art and re-situates traditional spaces and landscapes within vast immersive screens — while, when working with futuristic subjects, resisting cold technological imagery in favor of warmth and a sense of life.

He currently leads THE VIDEOS, a media studio in Seochon, Seoul — at once a production house and a small cultural space where screenings, conversations, and experiments take place. His work spans immersive media art for museums and cultural institutions, documentaries on traditional culture, portrait films, projection mapping and panoramic video, and AI-driven experiments in historical and science-fiction imagery — directing every stage from concept to completion. In partnership with Swiss art schools and Swissnex, he has run long-term collaborative projects with international interns, operating the studio as both a production company and a small school for creators.

Recurring throughout his work are the light shifting from dawn to night, slow-moving clouds, figures emerging from dust, and the sounds that linger in old places. Even at the scale of spectacle, he leaves room for quiet moments. Since 2024, he has returned to painting in earnest, moving beyond commissioned work toward an independent body of art that will be remembered under his own name.

Jun Minsoo is an artist and director who uncovers the emotions that remain in time and place, and translates them — through painting, photography, film, and technology — into new spatial experiences.
